Who we are
Who are we
The Association of Social Workers in Northern Canada, ASWNC, is a professional, non-governmental association that promotes the profession of Social Work in Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. It is a professional association and not a statutory regulatory body.
Founded in 1974, it represents social workers, students, instructors, and retired professionals across the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and serves as a partner organization of the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW).
The ASWNC promotes the social work profession, advocates for improved working conditions in remote northern communities, and lobbies for public protection and high standards of practice.
We foster communication and networking among isolated practitioners spread across Canada’s three northern territories, as well as engage with territorial Departments of Health and Social Services through consultations, policy briefs, and public interest.
